Open Work Permit Pilot for Sponsored Spouses and Common-law Partners Extended by IRCC Canada

The Open Work Permit Pilot for common-law partners and sponsored spouses to apply for permanent residence has been extended once again by the Government of Canada.

On December 15th, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) released an update in which it stated that the pilot program under the Spouse or Common-law Partner in Canada (SCLPC) has been extended till January 31st, 2019.

Latest Report Concludes Canadian Job Vacancies at Record High

The third quarter of 2017 saw a record rise in job vacancies in the private sector in Canada, according to a new report from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business.

It was revealed that the situation is same as that in early 2008.

According to a rough estimate, a record number of 361,700 jobs have remained unfilled in the past four months as the employers are not able to find right candidates. The report was submitted by CFIB which is a non-profit organization that has more than 109,000 independent business members across Canada.

Canada House of Commons Wants to Repeal 'Excessive Demand' Rules

The Parliamentary committee of Canada has recommended repeal of a section of Immigration and Refugee Protection Act which prevents entry of immigrants that can cause “excessive demand” on the healthcare system of the country.

The House of Commons Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration has held hearings in the last few weeks on the Medical Inadmissibility Provisions Act and Section 38-1C in particular.

Nova Scotia Demand Express Entry Stream Reopened Briefly on Weekend

Category B of the Nova Scotia Demand: Express Entry immigration stream reopened briefly on Saturday, December 9th.

The Government of Nova Scotia stated that nearly 175 to 225 application will be accepted in the latest opening of the Nova Scotia Demand: Express Entry (NSDEE).

As has happened earlier, the intake limit was reached within no time, as the NSDEE works on a first-come, first-served basis.

Alberta Reaches Nomination Allocation for the Year 2017

The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program, one of the Provincial Nominee Programs from Canada has reached its maximum allocation limit for 2017 of 5,500 nomination certificates.

According to AINP, all the applications that have been submitted already will be processed, however, no more certificates will be given out till 2018.

It has been told by AINP that till December 4th, more than 3,050 applications were in the line for processing and assessing.

December 6th Express Entry Draw Invited 2,750 Candidates

The first Express Entry draw in the last month of 2017 happened on December 6th and a total of 2,750 candidates were invited by the Government of Canada.

These invited candidates will now be able to apply for Canadian permanent residency. The cut-off score for the Comprehensive Ranking System stood at 452 points.

One more time, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) made use of the tie break procedure in the Express Entry draw.

This tie break procedure was first introduced in the month of June.

272 Skilled Workers Invited in Recent Manitoba Draw

The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) held a draw on November 23rd and a total of 272 skilled workers were invited through it.

In this draw, workers were invited by way of Skilled Worker Overseas stream and Skilled Workers in Manitoba stream. A total of 250 candidates were invited in the Skilled Worker in Manitoba stream and the candidate with the lowest rank had scored 567 points.

Apart from this, a total of 22 skilled workers were invited by way of the Skilled Worker Overseas sub-category, particularly through the Strategic Recruitment Initiative.

New Immigration Agreement Signed Between Canada and Ontario

The governments of Ontario and Canada have come to a new agreement aimed to enhance the recruitment effort of skilled immigrants. The objective is to train them so they can fulfill the occupational requirements of the province.

The Canada-Ontario Immigration Agreement (COIA) has a funding of $91 million in the next three years for bridge training programs. New immigrants will be able to fine tune their skills as per the professional standards that are set by Ontario.

Canada Wants to Make Changes in Medical Inadmissibility Rules

The immigration minister of Canada, Ahmed Hussen has stated that the present medical inadmissibility rules for new immigrants are out of date as per values of the country and needs change.

Hussen was speaking at the Standing Committee on Immigration in Parliament on Wednesday. Speaking on the broader review of the medical inadmissibility rules on immigration, she stated “necessary and long overdue.”

Ontario's Immigration Streams Reach Nomination Allocation for 2017

One of the most famous Provincial Nominee Programs from Canada, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) has reached its allocation for provincial nomination for 2017.

This announcement has come after a busy year for the OINP, which accepted applications under 10 different streams for immigrants. A total of 6,000 nominations were allotted for the year by the most famous province in Canada.
