Immigrate to Yukon, Canada under Yukon PNP & Community Pilot

Launched in July 2020, the Yukon Community Pilot (YCP) is a new stream of the Yukon Nominee Program that allows foreign workers to live and work in Canada without a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).

If you have a valid nomination for permanent residence from Yukon, you may be eligible for a 2-year location-restricted open work permit under the YCP.

This new pilot will run for 3 years and is designed to help boost the local economy of participating Yukon communities:

  • Whitehorse
  • Watson Lake
  • Dawson City
  • Haines Junction
  • Carmacks
  • Carcross

About The Work Permit

This work permit:

  • lets you work for up to 3 different employers in 1 of the participating Yukon communities
  • is valid for 2 years
  • doesn’t need an LMIA

Open Work Permit Eligibility

To qualify for the work permit, you must:

  • have 2 or 3 eligible job offers from any 1 participating Yukon community employers
  • have a signed letter of support from the Government of Yukon
  • meet the general requirements for a work permit
  • have relevant work experience

Job offer requirements

The jobs you’re offered must meet all these requirements:

  • They must all be in the same participating Yukon community
  • They must add up to at least 30 hours of work a week (equal to a full-time job)
  • They must be non-seasonal
  • The wage must meet or exceed the minimum wage (As of April 1, 2020 the minimum wage in Yukon is $13.71 per hour)
  • Your experience must show that you can perform the duties of the jobs offered

To get nomination from the Yukon Provincial Nominee Program (YPNP), applicants need to apply through the Skilled Worker Program or the Critical Impact Worker Program depending on their skill level.

 Eligibility Criteria 

Skilled Worker Program

(For highly skilled workers with work experience in occupations classified NOC 0, A and B)

Critical Impact Worker Program

(For mid to low or unskilled workers with work experience in occupations classified NOC C & D)

* Get a job offer from a designated employer in  –Yukon
* Minimum 1 year of related work experience in –last 10 years required
*Language Proficiency (either English or French)

(A) For occupations classified NOC 0 or A

An approved language test demonstrating proficiency equal to or above the CLB 7 (IELTS 6 bands in all modules – Listening, Writing, Speaking & Reading)

(B) For occupations classified NOC B

An approved language test demonstrating proficiency equal to or above the CLB 5 (IELTS 5 bands in Listening, Writing & Speaking and 4 Bands in Reading module)

*Language Proficiency (either English or French)

An approved language test demonstrating proficiency equal to or above the CLB 4

IELTS Scores:

  • Reading – 3.5
  • Writing – 4.0
  • Listening- 4.5
  • Speaking – 4.0
*Plan to live in Yukon

Applicant will also require a signed letter of support from the Government of Yukon containing details about his/her job offer such as location, number of hours, occupation, employers name etc. along with confirming that the employer needs the applicant to work in the community.

Important Note: The Yukon Provincial Nominee Program (YPNP) nomination leads to direct Permanent Residency, which requires processing time of at least 12-18 months.

Instead of waiting for such a long time in their home country; the Yukon Government has introduced Yukon Community Pilot (YCP) through which after nomination and PR filing, applicant can apply for Open Work Permit and can reach Canada in 2 to 3 months!!
